Blackberry in winter

Writer's picture: Louisette and PeterLouisette and Peter

We all like blackberries, but here in zone 5 it is most of the time a disapointment. The long fruit baring shoots from last year always freeze off to where the snow was and then you only get a few flowers from the bottom just enough for a hand full. Here to the snow tells me that, when you protect the long shoot from the wind, they might survive the winter. That is why I wraped a few of them with burlap. Now I can compare them with the non wraped once. If we get lots of fruit on those then we know the trick to get a good crop of Blackberries.

Stay tuned for an update in the spring
