Today I am getting ready for seeding. The soil should be fine so when you transplant you don’t do a lot of damage to the roots. If the clumps are too big roots will break off. Special seeding mix I don’t like it is so fine that it is dust, so I make my own. I take a good potting mix that

is coarse and rub it through a screen, my screen is .25” square holes, look for the pictures. The potting mix I have I have on sale here at the garden Centre. Once you have it screened you can fill your seed trays. Don’t fill them to full you will only need 1” of soil. Then water it with a fine nozzle watering can so when you water the soil should not move around. Now is the time to practice, there is no seed to disturb, so you know how you can works do little bits at one time until the soil is evenly wet. Then you are ready to seed. I seed right out of the packet but you have to be careful not to dump them in one place. You can take a white piece of paper so you can see better what you are doing. Do read the instructions on the packet some seeds need to be covered. As you can see my last flats have black plastic they need total darkness to germinate.
